I have a Crosswind I got for Christmas at the turn of the century (20th to 21st that is) and to my mind it has always lost an excessive amount of time. Even after last service it still loses about 8 minutes per month. What should be the normal accuracy, how often should it be serviced and what was the model Breitling replaced it with. Was it the Colt.

Not an 'official' replacement, but the Chrono Cockpit was the model introduced when the Crosswind was discontinued.

In terms of accuracy, some Crosswinds were COSC certified (model 13355), and some were not (model 13055). COSC models should be good to -4 / +6 seconds per day - so the oustide of the loss would be 2 minutes per month. Non COSC models aren't certified to that accuracy, but they should still be in the same area - 8 minutes is excessive but should be correctable with a simple regulation.

In terms of service intervals, it's when accuracy gets worse and / or the power reserve is significantly reduced rather than a hard and fast time period, but as a rule of thumb it's 5 - 7 years.

Mine is a 13355 and I last had it serviced two years ago. I was doing it every two years, as per the dealer recommendation here in Qatar, so your helpful comment about the 5~7 years is well appreciated

As Roff said, the timekeeping of a watch is a good enough indicator of when a service is due. Given the tiny tolerances these watches operate to, all the time it is keeping good time, it's pretty safe to assume that everything inside is generally OK.

The only thing that might mean a more regular trip for your watch to an AD is if you regularly swim with your watch on. In that case it's worth getting the gaskets checked for water resistancy ideally yearly, or certainly bi-yearly.
