Hey everyone,
This is my first post on the site since I just registered. I have been poking around here for a while since I got my Aerospace as a gift back in early 2008, but now I have an issue that I could use a little insight/opinion on. I wear my watch every single day and I especially love it for flying. Recently the displays started flashing on and off for a few weeks, so I took it in to the dealer when I returned from TDY. They just informed me that the battery has been leaking and they recommend a mechanism refurbishment to clean out the battery acid to the tune of $585. Has anyone heard of this before? I know that I am beyond my warranty (barely), but I take beautiful care of the watch (no dropping or hitting it) so I can't imagine why the battery would crap out like this. I already have them doing the fix since the watch means too much to me, but is there any chance of getting some help from Breitling?

Thanks in advance.

Batteries can be an issue like this and they certainly can leak over time. It's unusual for a battery to leak while it's still got power as most of the time they degrade if they are left in situ for too long once they've expired. However it can happen at any time, so I think you've just been very unlucky.

The issue you have with getting a financial discount/assistance from Breitling if it's outside of warranty is two-fold. Firstly, it's outside of warranty. Breitling are well within their rights not to do any work free of charge. It's a pain, I know, but that's why warranties have a finite end-date.

The second reason is that the battery isn't made by Breitling, so a battery failure is not a failure of Breitling's doing. You can certainly ask if they'd be prepared to do anything for you on the price, but I don't rate your chances.

Hope it all works out for you.

Well thanks for the response. I appreciate it. I'll see what I can do, and if I get anything useful I'll let you all know in case it might help you out.
Cheers.
