Hey everyone, this is my first of many posts in this forum..

I have a Breitling SuperOcean Steelfish (automatic chronometre), I have had it for nearly 6 years now. It has unfortunately begun losing time, it will lose 5 minutes every week.

Would a service fix this problem? It has never had a service as of yet.

Your help is appreciated.

As it has been posted so many times before, a service is mandatory every 4 to 5 years.

So after 6 years, the oils are getting old which could explain the 5 minute per week loss. A service would most probably fix the problem

I don't remember reading that, and it's not accurate.

The service interval for a mechanical Breitling is 5 - 7 years in the real world, and even then it's not "manadatory".

In a six year old watch (plus the time sitting at the AD before sale) then I agree that the oils have broken down and are not providing sufficient lubrication hence why the watch is loding time, but your statement above is incorrect.

That's what I've been told by my AD. Maybe not mandatory, you're right, but strongly advisable. But he said it in a way meaning that after that period of time, you may encounter problems which could be avoided if the watch was serviced. That does not mean, of course, that you necessarily would have encounter any problems at all.

He's trying to make money out of you.

The watch needs servicing when it can't keep a 42 hour power reserve or keep time withing COSC specs - and that has been said on here multiple times
