I have a magnificent barely worn watch. It is a solid 18k SuperOcean. I have hit hard times and have to sell it. I bought the watch new about 10-11 years ago. I have all the paperwork and box that it came in. Could you guys help me out on what I should ask for it. I have attached a picture of the watch. It is a very heavy watch!

For reference, there's one on Chrono24 with a leather strap going for $6,000.

Thanks for the feedback. I would think the gold alone would be worth that much. I have searched everywhere for this watch to compare its worth. Any further assistance will be appreciated.

That one on Chrono 24 won't sell for that much - he'll be lucky to get $5,500.

The bracelet will add significantly - should push it above $10,000 but this is a horrible time to be selling gold watches and if you are in need of a quick sale then you may well have to settle for less than $10k.

Thank you. Just figuring gold to be one of the only good investments these days I hoped to get around 10-13k. Guess I should go get the gold weighed. Any idea on the weight of the movement in these watches so I know what to subtract from the weight?

The movement is of negligible weight. Whatever the watch weighs I'd suggest just taking off something like 5g... maybe 10g tops... to cover the movement, crystal and dial etc.

Not sure I would go that low to be honest. Sapphire's pretty thick, rotor is weighted at the edge, I'd wager that we are 20g plus of non gold bits.

Well I must be honest I've not had a crystal out of a watch before so I guess the thickness on an SO's will push the weight up a bit, but I've had an ETA 2824 out of an old watch and while I didn't physically weigh it, it struck me as pretty small and pretty light......

Then again, I'm pretty hopeless at estimating weights, so perhaps you're right.

 No I didn't think you were at all. I was literally just guessing when I said between 5 and 10g, and I could tell from your post that you actually really do know how much it weighs! So in all seriousness I was genuinely bowing to your better knowledge on that point!

Never owned a gold Breitling so could I ask a question just out of interest.

Is the case/bracelet solid gold?

Thanks

Yes - or at least 18k, so 75% gold.

Unlike the TT the bracelet is solid gold links.
