Hello,

This may be a stupid question but is there a certain way watches should be put in a winder? I have a winder made for 2 watches. I am pretty sure it rotates one way for about 5 minutes, stops for about 5 minutes and the rotates the other way. Should both watches be facing the same way or should they be opposite of each other? (meaning 1 right side up and the other upside down)

Nick

Depends on the movement in the watch, some only wind in one direction (like the Valjoux 7750 -clockwise only).
Read the instructions of the watch....

Its also safe to say that although your watch only winds in a clockwise rotation there is no harm to the watch if your winder is set to operate in a clockwise then counter clockwise mode. I have 4 watches on a winder some wind in a clockwise only rotation and the others wind in both directions. For example my SA carries the calibre 7750.5 which winds clockwise and my Breitling Superocean carries the calibre 2824-2.5 which winds in both directions. So the SuperOcean gets wound in both cycles whereas the SA only gets wound while in the clockwise cycle.

:yeahthat I just run my winder on the alternating cycle irrespective of the watch. After all, wearing them on your wrist will mean they are subject to random motion, so I see no problem with both clockwise and counter-clockwise rotation. I've never experienced any issue with watches that wind in one direction (like my SA) not being wound when I come to wear them.

You are right Jerome, it doesn't hurt for the watch to be rotated in the direction that it doesn't wind...
But you'll have to have the watch on the winder double as long to achieve the same power reserve than if you only have it set to the direction it winds. BUT, if you feel you have enough power reserve when the watch comes off the winder going two directions, it really doesn't matter....

Thanks guys for your help. Seeing I only use the winder at night, I don't need to worry about any problems.
