Hi all

new member to a great forum!

I was recently very lucky to receive a pre-owned Breitling for Bentley 6.75 for my 40th birthday from my wife. It is simply stunning, brown croc strap silver face, steel case.

However I have noticed that it is gaining time quite quickly, I started measuring it and it looks like it is gaining about 5 seconds per day, I am assuming that this is not normal and that maybe the AD has not serviced it properly before sending it out, what is your opinion?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Derek

+5 seconds a day is within Chronometer specifications of -4/+6 seconds a day so in that respect it's performing fine.

There are some 80,000 seconds in a day. A variance of five seconds indicates an accuracy of 99.99%.

Thanks guys, I just wasn't sure of the tolerances, I have an Omega Seamaster which I got 10 years ago, not the automatic unfortunately, but that doesn't lose or gain anywhere near that.

Cheers

Quartz watches are many times more accurate than mechanical watches simply due to the way they work. But mechanical watches offer so much more on an esoteric level (at least in my opinion! :D )

I have both myself and personally I think they are very different pieces. The 6.75 wears much lower on the wrist so in terms of height they are quite different. The crystal area is much bigger on the 6.75, obviously the overall design is very different, and then the movement is very different as well. The B13 in the SA is Valjoux 7750 based, whereas the B44B in the 6.75 is ETA 2892 based with the big date complication, so the dial layout is different. So to quote Blackadder, I personally think they are as similar as "two dissimilar things in a pod".

To the unitiated it does seem quite a difference in price.......i dont obviously have the expertise to judge if it is warranted.........My SA was £3,300 the Bentley is almost twice that.......expensive hobby this Breitling collecting.
 ...............

Hi all

thanks for all the replies so far, I have been keeping a close eye on the accuracy and measuring it every day and it would now appear that the watch is gaining between 8 and 12 seconds per day. Do you think it is worth contacting the AD about?

Thanks again

Derek

Not yet.

New watches take several weeks to settle, if it's still outside of COSC specs at the end of this month then have it regulated by the AD.

Thanks for that, just to be clear, it is a pre-owned 6.75, but I will give it a month and then see if it needs to be sent to the AD for regulation.

It's still adjusting - your wearing habits are different from the previous owner's.
