Post subject:  Original Blackbird Winder Wonderings!
Hi All,

Finally settled on my first ling! original blackbird (a13350) ! :) I went out today and bought a watch winder i've managed to find out that this particular watch has a clockwise watchwinder direction but i cant seem to find any information on how long to safely leave it winding for.. etc (Breitling Movement 13).

The program on my winder is 1 hour rotate and 3 hour rest im hoping i can leave it winding overnight and it wont stress the movement too much?

Would love some help from anyone that can assist!

Caliber 13 needs clockwise winding with 800 tpd, As long as your winder can do that then you'll be fine - the 3 hour rest is sufficient.

Well ware on your first breitling. I have a winder with a 1on/3off cycle like your and I keep it on the 1 on 3 off CW, of course, setting. It is fitted with a timer set to 12hrs on 12hrs off. and it keeps my caliber 13 inside COSC standards. I found that it did not need to be on for the 24hrs (I was worried about over charging) so I cut it down to having it on for half the day. Work perfect for me.

Thanks for the responses guys!

Think it should be fine for through the night as ill be wearing it for the most part itll only be in the winder ~10 hours per day

If you are wearing it for 14 hours a day, every day then it shouldn't need a winder at all.

If you are wearing it for 14 hours a day, every day then it shouldn't need a winder at all.

:yeahthat No need for winder but nice to have it anyway.. Your watch has a 42 hour reserve so if its only off wrist for 1o hours, or overnight, you are well covered. I need a winder because I only ware mine at the weekends.

hmm i must be either not winding it fully or theres a problem - when its on my wrist no issues at all but when i take it off overnight EVERY morning it needs rewinding

Give it as full wind - 40+ turns and then set it down and leave it until it stops. That will tell you how long the power reserve is. If that's around 42 hours then that's OK. Next wind it fully again and wear it, see how long it takes to stop. If it's still only 42 hours then there is a problem with the automatic winding. In 14 hours of wear you should be able to give it enough power to get throught the next 10, even with the most sednetary lifestyle so it may just be that the watch needs a good wind to sort it out.

Ok, Im fairly sure its fully wound now sitting in its case - will repost when it stops!

Ok its stopped!

i'm either grossly underestimating how much winding it takes or theres a problem here - Is there any physical way of knowing when its fully wound other than turn counting?

40 turns and its fully wound. I think there is a slip clutch on your watch so you technically can t over wind it but don t go over 40 just in case....Check instructions or do a quick search here. As Roff. says wind fully (40) leave down and do not touch until it stop again because if you keep lifting it up and looking at it you will be auto winding it in the process. The time it should last is 42hrs. Any thing a lot under and you will have a problem. Check back again to let us know how you got and and good luck with hopefully it will be ok..... .

OK so it's either not holding reserve (unlikely given that it stopped so quickly) or there is another problem that is causing it to stop when not moving.

That would be my guess and further suspect that the answer to this next question may be enlightening.............

When was the watch last serviced?
