When changing the time you can rotate the crown either way (i.e. time forwards or backwards), but never turn time backwards in the 8pm - 3am timeframe for the same reason as not using the quick set date. From memory the date on a caliber 13 changes by turning the crown anti-clockwise, but it will only work one way and won't cause damage the wrong way (as long as it is outside the 8pm - 3am window).

If the date has already set to the next day prior to 3am (say right at midnight) do you still need to wait until 3am? Are there any other things to avoid that might damage the watch?
SA fakes have gotten scary good. I have side by sided my real to the "best" fakes and had a very hard time picking the differences (lume, tick marks etc...) If your heart is set on buying form your friend, I would go see the watch, take good close up pics of the dial and post them in the replica ID section here. Sharkmouth, Bnewbie and the rest have a gift for fake spotting and will let you know. Making certain all of the papers are in order (COSC and warranty book) and that the serial numbers match is always a good paperwork check. All said, jnelson is right.
