Hi all, I just finished college and I'd like to purchase a stainless Super Avenger for myself. A friend of mine's family has a jewelry business and said he would give me a good deal on it, but they don't have a storefront, it's more an office building and he said they get wholesale prices buying at jewelry shows and things like that so it would be cheaper than a retail store (Tourneau quoted me $4.5k for the one I wanted, my friend said about or less than $3.5k). I've been reading this site and seeing a lot of information about fakes and want to make sure I'm not getting duped. I've known this guy for a long time and I highly doubt he'd knowingly sell me a fake but there's always the chance he has a fake that he thinks is real.

Is there any specific information I should ask him for, such as what wholesalers he's purchasing from, etc? Can I get a serial number of a particular watch and call Breitling to have it verified that his business owns that specific watch? Or is it too risky to even buy from a non-authorized seller? He said they don't have any SA's in stock right now so I'd have to tell him exactly what model/configuration I want and then he would get it, and then I could look at it.

And I know this might be an unusual request but if anyone here lives in Houston and would like to help me check it out before I buy, that would be great.

You can assure it's real by buying from an AD and you'd pretty much get the same price. Check your PMs.

:yeahthat SA fakes have gotten scary good. I have side by sided my real to the "best" fakes and had a very hard time picking the differences (lume, tick marks etc...) If your heart is set on buying form your friend, I would go see the watch, take good close up pics of the dial and post them in the replica ID section here. Sharkmouth, Bnewbie and the rest have a gift for fake spotting and will let you know. Making certain all of the papers are in order (COSC and warranty book) and that the serial numbers match is always a good paperwork check. All said, jnelson is right. I have bought 2 from his guy (George) and have been nothing but thrilled. Best of luck!!!! :lingsrock:

You can't buy a Breitling from a 'wholesaler'.

The only place to buy a Breitling in the USA is from BUSA, and they only sell to ADs.

It sounds to me like your friend is a grey market dealer who is buying watches from overseas ADs - take the advice already given.

Just picked up my SA today, decided to just buy it retail and save myself some trouble. I like it a lot and I've been wearing it everywhere. Just a few questions:

- About the "don't adjust the date/time between 8 pm and 3 am" thing, how exactly does that work? The manual has a little 1 sentence thing about it but it sounds pretty serious.

- Do you have to adjust the date at the end of every month or does it know what month you're in and how many days are in each month?

- Can you use the stopwatch to time things longer than 12 hours? What happens after it hits 12 hours?

- How are you supposed to rotate the bezel? I know you can, I just didn't try it yet because I've been babying my watch and didn't want to fiddle with too many things yet.

- The crown is supposed to be turned clockwise or counterclockwise when adjusting time/date?

In terms of using the quickset date between 8pm and 3am, you run a serious risk of damaging the date change mechanism if you do it asit will be partly engaged. It sounds serious, because it is serious.

You have to adjust the date at the end of months with fewer than 31 days.

After 12 hours the chronograph just continues to run - effectively starting again from zero, so you can time longer events, you just have to remember to add 12 hours to the elapsed time shown.

The bezel rotates anti-clockwise and is turned by just gripping it and turning.

When changing the time you can rotate the crown either way (i.e. time forwards or backwards), but never turn time backwards in the 8pm - 3am timeframe for the same reason as not using the quick set date. From memory the date on a caliber 13 changes by turning the crown anti-clockwise, but it will only work one way and won't cause damage the wrong way (as long as it is outside the 8pm - 3am window).

So outside of 8pm-3am, you can adjust the time forwards or backwards, and rotating it backwards won't damage it?

If the date has already set to the next day prior to 3am (say right at midnight) do you still need to wait until 3am? Are there any other things to avoid that might damage the watch?

Don't use the quickset date or wind time backwards between 8pm and 3am under any circumstances - whether the date has changed is irrelevant.

In terms of other things, I guess the most obvious is don't use the pushers under water.

Make sure the crown's screwed down before you hop in the pool too. Keep it screwed in unless you're adjusting it.
