how does a Navitimer World's auto wind up mechanism go like? only clockwise, anti clockwise or both directions? i bought this watch for more than a year, but it stayed in watch winder more than on my wrist, and the watch winder goes both directions. Within the year, the watch is doing well. However, i found it one day that it stopped operating. And now my watch is currently being serviced and they told me that World goes only clockwise. Please help to advise. Thanks. |

I'd wait for Roff the chime in here but winding in both directions should not wear out a watch in 1 year. A watch turns in both directions when you wear on your wrist, so winding it in both directions should not destroy it. |

The World is a modified Valjoux 7754 which needs 800 tpd clockwise. If the watch winder is set up to go in both directions then half of the rotations (the clockwise ones) are winding the watch and the other half (counter clockwise) are wasted. They won't hurt the watch, but they won't wind it either. As the movement needs 800 tpd the only way that is going to happen is if the winder is operating at 1,600 tpd or higher (800 CW, 800 CCW). I doubt that is the case and therefore over time the mainspring will wind down and the watch will stop. |

Do you mean the World only wind up when it goes clockwise, but do nothing when it goes counter clockwise? If so, shall i set the watchwinder turns only clockwise? I wear it once a week, the rest of the time it stays in watchwinder, and i had it in my watchwinder which turns both directions for a year. Until one day it stopped, i sent it to service (normal service) After service, i put it back to watchwinder, 2-3 days later, it stopped again. It went well for a year in the watchwinder. After service, same watchwinder turns both directions, it stopped again... i don't know how many times my watchwinder turns per day, but it got no problem keeping the watch going a year at least. Pls advise, thanks a million. |

It's possible that pre service the watch was only losing a few hours of reserve per day - it was still getting a partial wind, and therefore wasn't losing all the reserve in a week. After the service it had a new mainspring, and the behaviour would have changed somewhat so not particularly surprised that it stopped again so quickly. |

I would test the power reserve. Set the time and date. Then wind it by hand for at least 40 turns of the crown and then lay it where it will be undisturbed. Check it every twelve hours to see when it stops and calculate the power reserve. It should be somewhere close to 42 hours. If it is less than that by an appreciable amount, the mainspring bridle is slipping in the barrel prematurely. That means it will never be fully wound. Unfortunately, that also means another trip to Breitling. |

thanks to all who helped me here, really appreciate. Now I know more about what on my wrist. Actually my watch is currently under Breitling headquater checking on this matter. Will ask them check the power reserve. Million thanks to all professional knowledge. |
