Hi, I'm not sure if this is the correct forum so please move it to where it should be?
I recently bought a Rothenschild Watch Winder ref: RS-721-2 from Amazon.
It came without the power adaptor, which has just arrived by separate post (a fault the supplier rectified without too much of a problem).
However, I tried it out with my Navi Fighters and found the bracelet pad is too small and allows the watch to flop about when it rotates.
More worrying is the watch scrapes against the glass, so I would say it's really not suitable for anything chunkier than a navitimer.
Please bear this in mind when buying a winder, I'd not want anyone to make the same mistake.
I'm looking to send it back to the supplier.
On the same subject does anyone have a recommendation for a winder suitable for a Fighters and an Olympus.
The Olympus is a wee bit more chunky than the Fighters I believe, but it's still in transit so I can't compare it just yet.

hi. I researched winders a lot. Both dear and cheap ones and the best one i found was a cheap one. Time tutelary 2 tower one from ebay. The seller was very helpfull. I ll post the link later. It seemed to have the most setting of any winders even expensive ones. I have only just received it and so far am very happy with don t know it will winde the watches properly. But i am sure it will. Quality wise. How quite it is. Settings are all perfect so far. Will post links later and post update on performance in a week. . .

Driver8 swears by Official Time winders.

Me, I've had enough disappointment and am now going with the quality winders with quality warranties.

I bought a "cheapy" Time Tutelary Black One Watch Winder from "Watch Obsession" via E Bay possibly the same supplier as breanach 78.......the adjustment options when you finally suss it out gives a good range except for my SA :bow: where i do have to leave the cover open a tad........its omnidirectional very quiet...and quite stylish (the piano black goes a treat with the rest of my office equipment) i was offered all the help from the seller during the postal strike...........a delay in getting the winder was down to the strike..........so well pleased with the whole deal...............

i am very happy with this lower end winder. it seems to keep my chronomat wound but I only have it a couple of days. Its silent, cheap and easily replaceable if it breaks, granted it very plasticy looking and has a cheap feel to it but where mine is I am the only the only one that will ever really see it.

..... in a quality vs price trade-off capacity! They aren't the worlds finest winders, but then they aren't the cheapest either, and have certainly served me well. As a quality vs price exercise, then I've been more than happy with OT.

I agree, to a degree. You pay for what you get. I was just afraid for a small motor working constantly its not going to last forever and don't you know it will break when its a week out for warranty. If mine was in a place of prominence I would have to have a quality winder, probably shallow by me...but that me...I was talking to a friend of mine who recently purchased a Rolex and then spent over 600Euro on a Rolex single winder. i could justify that in any way!!!!!!!

Most of people can, but I'm more than happy with my $40 Chinese trash (programmable) - it serves it's purpose (it's in another room so I don't hear noises :lol: ).

That's true, but if I am buying 6 / 9 / 12 watch winders then I want something that I know that I can rely on and can be reasonably sure that is going to be hassle free - or at least has a good (3 year) warranty. To me, I am prepared to pay a little more for that piece of mind and lack of hassle.

The noise is also an issue for me, I have had bad issues with cheaper ones getting noisy after a while and I live in the middle of nowhere - at night it's quiet and a noisy motor sounds really loud. The furniture aspect of them is nice I guess, although that's not my main concern - in fact I would actually buy Orbita Tourbillon series if they did larger ones which isn't really a furniture type piece.

I know many people will think that I am crazy, but is that really news to anyone? :lol:

I'm still trying to get the winder sent back to the supplier. I've been playing e-mail tennis with them for a week now so it's time to get Amazon involved! Again it's the problem and expense of sending something back overseas (Europe this time).
There doesn't seem to be as much research being done by suppliers into goods being fit for purpose. I wonder if the stuff is just shipped in from China and the cheap price overrides any other considerations (although I'd not call this winder cheap at £125.00). I'll be thinking twice about purchases from abroad in future, and asking more pointed questions, such as will this watch winder actually wind watches?
If anyone needs any tips on buying trouble free stuff over the internet, avoid my help like the plague.

I have an Orbita winder and have had no issues. Also, I haven't used any other brand.

I have super cheapy Garmin multi-watch winders. By day 2 they were noisy. But they have plenty of room, keep all my watches wound, and I just make sure they are off when I retire at night. They aren't noisy enough to hear in another room.

Phew, I've underestimated the price and complexity of winders :oops: :? .
I've sent the Rothenschild Winder back as it was not big enough for a Navitimer.
On the plus side it was quiet and had a good range of movements.
Thanks for all the info, I'll have another look but unfortunatley I'm on a tight budget so I'll have to stick to under £150 at the moment (even if it only lasts a year or two).

I bought a Wolf Module 1.5 from my AD. My Blackbird fits with no problem and so far, it's doing a good job.

28Apr2010 update - my Blackbird fell out yesterday, after a couple of weeks of having the Wolf. Luckily, I had heard of this happening, so I had it at the edge of the nightstand and it only dropped a couple of feet onto the carpet. At this point, I will probably just make an angled base for it. I think it's too late to take the winder back.
