I tried to get this account up and opened eairler for everyones advice but here goes...
I purchased my first Breitling last Wed. it's an awesome Superocean with a black face. I took it home and wound it up and it seemed like it kept good time up until I woke up yesterday morning and it was 20 min behind so I set it again and it kept losing time by about 20 sec/hour and again this morning I woke up and it was 20 min behind. So this time I took it off and wound it 40 times and put it back on well not an hour later it was -20 sec off so I tried to search on these forums and then I thought I would just sign up and ask the question myself.

Well I just took it to my AD at lunch and he told me that they are ordering my a new one and it should be here in a couple days so I guess thats good Im getting a new box, papers etc...

I know this is a long post but I wanted to be clear,
when I get my new Superocean in I just wind it 40 times clockwise and leave it on my wrist and do not have to wind it again?

Thanks for your time in reading this and helping me out.
Adam

Adam,

Welcome aboard!

Sorry you had problems on the first go-round, but that's just one of many stories about Breitling standing behind their product.

Yes, when you receive a new watch which (hopefully) functions correctly, you just need to wind and wear. The power reserve is approximately 42 hours. So if it were off your wrist, or you were sedentary for that length of time, it may wind all the way down. Nothing bad happens if the watch winds down. You can just set the time and wind it again.

If you search this site (you might try searching for "automatic" or "power reserve"), you'll see plenty of people with all the same questions you have or may have in the future.

Good luck, and enjoy your new watch!

and mayby consider a winder for extended off-wrist jaunts (you WILL want more 'lings and a winder saves resetting etc)

Congrats on your first....false start but that sounds like the exception (that proves the rule)

but for a watch to be that off, especially if it is new, might have more to do with magnetization than low power. do you remember ever getting the watch near a strong magnetic field?

I'm not sure about that... According to Watchmakeress a magnetized automatic watch is likely to be speeding, not slowing down.

There was also a little speck of dust under the crystal that was next to the 5 o'clock dot that did not bother me but it was still somthing I did not expect from a 2k watch

I guess any manufacturer can have a bad piece. It's when it comes to fixing the bad piece I believe you truly get your money's worth.

Thats true. I just got word from my AD it will be 4 to 6 weeks. He said I could get my money back and wait for more to come in and get it. Or I can jsut wait for my new one to come in and not have to pay the price increase I guess they are having soon. I still have my box and papers but my AD has the watch. Im choosing to wait a month or so.

I hope your 4-6 weeks is rather 3,5 than 6... There's nothing fun in waiting for your piece to return. Sounds like a fair AD, and I also believe you made the right decision - one never knows how many watches they'll get and what the price increase will be...

Well when I got off work yesterday I stopped by my AD to go ahead and pay my tab, he said he was sorry again about the problem then handed me a pre-owned Submariner to get me through the next weeks. So what can I say? I am happy!

Well it's been since Feb 14 since my new watch was ordered and it came in yesterday so the 4 to 6 weeks turned into 3. I do have a few questions if anyone knows, the one I received before came in a yellow box with a small black box inside that opened up and there was the watch no plastice or nothing. My new one came in a much larger black box with a yellow bottom and inside that there was a big black plastic box and inside that was a little leather flip up box then there was the watch covered in tape. Did they just change the box or did they change something about the watch? When I get home I will post pics, I still have the older box.

Congratulations! Really good to hear that it was quicker than the 4-6 weeks. Looking forward to see your pics!

I've had both types of boxes with my Breitlings, and I don't find any logical way of telling when they use the different boxes. Hopefully Thomas/Alien can answer this better, if there is a general rule, as he's an AD.
