Hello,
I really hope you don't mind me posting on your forums, but I would really appreciate some help with choosing a breitling. I am hoping to buy my fiance a Breitling as a wedding present without him knowing so am trying to do as much research as possible.
He already owns a Superocean (2003 model I think) with a dark blue face. I know that he would like a silver or grey dial and from looking in some shops I am thinking that the Colt model might be the best to go for? (the budget is £2500). Unfortunately I am getting a bit confused with all the different models and was also wondering if there are any other options within my budget.
Thank you for any advice you are able to provide (sorry my description of his current watch is a bit vague!)

I'm not in the UK so not 100% about pricing, but that budget should give you more choice.

Can you help us understand your fiance's hobbies, job, etc - i.e. is this another 'active' watch like the SuperOcean or more of a suit and tie type watch - you get the idea.

Thank you so much for your quick reply - I will have a look at the website link. An 'active' style watch would be best- he very rarely gets to wear a suit so a watch that could be worn casually (like the superocean) would be ideal.
Are matte/brushed metal strap available on all models as I was thinking it might be nice for him to have his polished superocean and a matte bracelet one? Also, I was thinking that stick numerals (is that the right term?) would be a nice change as his superocean has numbers.

Bracelets generally only come brushed or polished, although Breitling do seem to be becoming more flexible on changing a finish if asked. Braceletsaren't interchangeable because of the shape of the endlinks.

Stick numbers / batons are available on many models. Check the 'Configurator' at www.breitling.com for some options - it sounds as though the Aeromarine range might be a good fit (SuperOcean is part of that as is the Colt)

Sounds like Aeromarine line would be a good fit with your price range. I would recommend the following:
1) Chrono superocean - may be pushing price limit. Has a chronograph which would give different look than superocean, white dial has blue sub-dials. Size is very similiar to present superocean, has baton style markers.
2) Steelfish - classic breitling and great all around piece. Silver dial can look dressy but sporty on bracelet ( if that's possible), watch case has both satin and polished surfaces, size is a little larger than #1. Both arabic and circular markers.
3)Colt automatic and chrono colt are a smaller in size, available in silver(white) dials with baton markers. Chrono colt is a quartz movement, not mechanical automatic like others mentioned.

One other note on size. Does he like present superocean size? The steelfish doesn't "wear" all that much larger although it does carry more weight. Hope I didn't confuse you. As already mentioned the Breitling.com website allows you to see different looks in the "configurator" mode.

I'm in the UK with a price list to hand so if you want any prices, just ask.

I'd suggest the silver (really white) Steelfish on a steel bracelet which lists at £2150, street price maybe down to £1750. A highly regarded and popular model.

I agree with the steelfish as well, what about getting it on an ocean racer instead of the bracelet, that way it will have a totally different look than the super ocean he has already?

But then again I'm a bit biased because that is what I have......

Wow! Thank you so much for the sugestions - I hadn't even heard of the steelfish, but it looks great. It sounds similiar in parts to his current watch so will be a great alternative for him with a different face. The Breitling configurator is brilliant - I'm so glad you showed me that!
Think I'll go have a look at a steelfish and a colt in some jewellers. Can't wait to choose it for him now.

When you visit the jeweller, be sure to ask for a copy of the Chronolog which is Breitling's name for it's catalogue.

Thank you for all your advice - I went shopping today and had a look at the Colt Automatic and the Superocean Steelfish, both were great but the Colt definitely seems a lot smaller than his current watch. I have bought the steelfish with the white (silver?) dial and the steel bracelet and can't wait to collect it in a few weeks and give it to him on the wedding day.
Fingers crossed that he'll love it.

Great choice,i have steelfish with a black face in my collection.
At the moment have it on a black diver ready for holiday.
Also have pro 2 bracelet which gives the watch a totally different look.
