Hi all,

I've got the chance to buy a 24 hour ltd edition chronomatic (from a reliable source - friend of a friend) which is used but as new, with all documentation, etc. I like the look of it and the "oddness" of the 24 hour dial, and it's a different style to my existing Ling but ...

I'm looking for help on 2 issues...
(1) How difficult is it to read the time with a 24 hour dial, especially if I rotate wearing the watch with my other Lings?

(2) What do you think is a fair price (in UK £) for such a model? I know that only 1000 were made but is there still a big premium for that in the pre-owned market?

Any thoughts at all much appreciated.

Nick

That is a sweet watch, the 24hr Chrono-Matic.. I saw one at my AD, and was quite tempted by the watch.... Very nice! Not sure about resale value. I would say they are worth around $3000 depending on whether it comes with a strap, bracelet, etc.

Thanks for your reply, Admin.

Thanks for a great site and forum too. The trouble is that I spend too much working time on it and have the urge to buy even more Ling!!!

Any other comments on the 24 hour Chrono-Matic from anyone?

Nick

Hello!

It's a relly sweet watch. But personally I would find it hard to read the time, at least if rotated with "normal" layout watches.

But again, for style alone the watch is king.

I own the Cosmonaute and wear it every other day. Took a little getting used to at first, but now I can read it fine. The trouble you'll find is when the time (either midnight or midday) is in the total opposite position. Difference between the Cosmo and the Chrono-matic is the position of the 12hr (midday) mark: Cosmo is at 6, Chrono is at 12.

Midday for me looks like 6 o'clock on a 12 hr watch, whereas midday on the Chrono is at 12 o'clock - where you expect it to be. Between the two, the Chrono may be easier to read since most people use and look at their watches during the morning and afternoon.

Either way, they're both very interesting watches and confuse the hell out of anyone else looking at them. Great conversation piece! If the price was right, I'd buy it.

Thanks, Withnail. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply.

I still haven't decided what to do about this one - typical Libran, eh! (not that I bother with all that stuff) - the Blacksteel was previously top of my wanted list but I have to admit that it's similar in style to my existing Lings. That's one of the reasons why I'm looking at the Chrono-Matic, to add something a little different.
