I'm amazed that every single part and screw is cleaned in those wire baskets! Awesome stuff! What a great clip - certainly shows where your money goes when you get your watch serviced.

While picking up a strap for my SA at a local AD I asked about the length of time it would take to service my Superocean. After being told it would take about a week or two depending on the local watchmakers schedule. I then asked to confirm that I was hearing right that it was actually done onsite. I immediately thought to myself there is no way he would be able to perform the level of work demonstrated in the video in his 4X4 sized work area.

The question now is does all watches sent into Breitling for service/overhaul actually go through this process?

Update:

All,

Just want to follow up on this post. Got confirmation from Breitling Service (here in Canada) that every Breitling that is overhauled in their service centre goes through this process. It is a requirement by Breitling that they must adhere to.

Now that is money well spent :D

I cant believe that I questioned it to begin with

oh yes, on top of that you get 2 years warranty on service directly relating to the performance of the watch ie. running too fast or slow.

Now I see why it costs so much. So my question is how do we keep, or even know, if the local guy is charging for this service but having the watchmaker in back doing the work?

Well firstly if an AD got caught doing that (i.e. charging for a Breitling service and doing it themselves they could be prosecuted and would alos undoubtedly lose their AD status. No AD would risk that for a couple of hundred pounds/dollars.

Secondly if a watch is serviced at Breitling and you send in the warranty book, the booklet comes back stamped with the Breitling service stamp, much like a car service. You will also get a Breitling invoice, etc. Now I'm sure your local watch guy could have a go at faking all this stuff, but it's SERIOUSLY unlikely!

And lastly if you send the watch directly to Breitling yourself, you've got no worries at all.
