Post subject:  watchwinder question!!.
Hi guy's,

I just purchased a avenger seawolf and a eilux watchwinder nr 1588 with 3 positions.
The AD have to provide it to me in a few day's so i dont have it right now.

Now i have a question about:

Can it over stress my breitling?

The AD tolt me it was a good normal budget winder so it has to working just fine right??

Has anybody has any experience with these kind off winders??

There are countless threads on watchwinders - bottom line.........

You can't overwind an automatic but you should have a watchwinder that allows for rest periods that give the mainspring a chance to partially wind down and you need to ensure that the winder has enough rotations per day.

No experience with Eilux, but the search function shows 15 matches (16 after I post this I guess!!) - search.php?keywords=eilux&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search

hi,

So the watchwinder has arrived yesterday and i must say its a fine piece.

My only concern is the rest period off the mainspring.

The winder has a 2 hour program, its winding the watch for eaxctly 10 min. and take a rest period for 1 hour and 50 min.

I hope there is somebody that can confirm this just ok for the watch.

so its just ok, and it doesent harm my watch??.
it has 950 tpd preprogramed by the way.

Well I may be revealing more than I really want, but....

I own a couple of winders that have 9 hour rest periods. :oops:

It's not necessarily just the rest period, but also the period of activity between rest periods - it's tough to get a balance. There are Orbita winders that only have 20 - 40 minute rest periods, but they also have very gentle rotation cycles - not 10 straight minutes of rotor activity.

At the end of the day the only real problem are ones without rest periods.

so what happens if you use a winder that runs the opposite direction of what is recomended for the watch or goes both ways?

If a watch only winds in one direction and the winder runs in the other direction then the watch just won't wind. If the watch only winds in one direction (some wind both ways) and the winder runs in both directions then it will only be wound half the time.

No damage either way.

Sorry to bring up yet another winder question...

Is there any other reason to use a winder other than to maintain correct time? That is, is constantly maintaining correct time somehow better for the watch movements? Won't wearing the watch in let's say minimum once-monthly rotation be adequate as far as making sure the oils are spread evenly, etc?

Otherwise I really don't mind re-setting the time on the watch that has been "hibernating" prior to wearing it. In fact, I truly enjoy going thru the ritual -- akin to starting up the engine to a beloved car in the morning... ya know?

I have it set to CW at under 800 TPD with. The unit does 1 full rotation every 120 secs. seems to work well.
