I purchased a used Breitling with the following inscribed on the back (Chronographe 100m, D55046, 1 977). It is stainless with a gold bezel, a gold and stainless bracelet, a black face with three small gold faced dials. The only dealer in town "believes" it to be a Chrono Sextant. Can someone suggest how I might locate tech data, instructions on how to use the chrono features and other facts such as year produced, etc. ![]() ![]() |

You've already found the right place. D55046 is the reference number for a stainless steel Chrono Sextant with a gold bezel and the page about it is here - http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... er_80.html In terms of the chrono functions - push the top buttin to start it, the top button again to stop it and then the bottom pusher to reset the chrono when stopped. |

Thanks Roffensian---Any idea of the year of manufacture? And the three dials--The bottom, middle is a second continous sweep hand I suppose and is the upper right hours ( one revolution = 12 hrs?) and the upper left minutes (one revolution = 30 min?) |

It's mid 90s - no way to date it to an exact year with watches of this age - they weren't date coded until later and the serial is not sequential. In terms of the subdials - you've now confused me. Are you saying that the hand that always moves is at the 6 o'clock position? I think on the chrono sextants it was always at 3 o'clock. Chrono Jetstream had the running seconds at 6 o'clock but that's a different reference - 55048. Can you post pictures? |

Yes, the second sweep is at the 6:00 o'clock position. I will try to post some pics. Excuse the quality. |

OK, let me attempt to clear up some of the confusion by adding more to it. The OP's pic is of a Chrono Sextant. I believe that the pic here http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_details/Windrider_80.html was determined in an earlier thread to be that of a Chrono Cockpit without a date and I don't think the pic has been changed since this thread http://breitlingsource.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=10238&hilit=sextant where the determination was made. |

Thanks br549. So in your opinion my watch is a Sextant. Now, bear with me, I have a few more questions. The sub-dial at the 3:00 o'clock position is labeled from the 12;00 O"clock position clockwise o,3,6,9 -does this dial measure hrs.? The dial at the 9:00 o'clock position has nos. of 30,10,20 at 120 degree intervals - does this dial measure minutes and the 6:00 o'clock sub-dial is secs. Also there are small nos. on a scale around the mailndial on irregular spacing, kind of like a log scale. What is this scale? |

The subdials are as you say running seconds at 6:00, chronometer minutes and hours at 9:00 and 3:00 respectively. The scale around the main dial is the tachymetre scale used for calculating speed over a known distance. |

I forgot about that whole sextant / cockpit thing a couple of months ago. I should have realised last night when I posted about the Jetstream as it's the same movement. Nice catch br549! |

I don't have a price list from that period so no idea of price when new. eBay or www.chrono24.com. Chrono 24 has these right now - not quite the same as yours but give you some idea (not sure why the gold one is so cheap) - http://www.chrono24.com/en/search/index ... TERIAL_ID= |
