I think it's seized up, lack of oil, they don't like running without oil.

a bit exaggerated but what whapped was my bentley 6.75 just stopped. I figure that after several days it needed a winding. So after 30 - 40 winds and pushing the crown back into position the second hand in the 3 o'clock position didn't move. I started shaking it - nothing. So I dont know what happened. I'm sending my to the ad tommorow but any ideas as to what happened or why would be nice. Thanks |

You probably already tried this but here goes any way. Did you give it a "bump?" A slight "knock" against the palm of your hand may set it in motion. If not, AD is the route. |

If you have fully wound the mainspring - crown in the first position after unscrewing and 40 turns and it's not running at all, and it's not running when worn - i'e rotor winding, then there is likely a problem somewhere in the running train. Mainsprings don't break these days (at least not without a lot of effort) so it has to be something in the wheels. Either way, definitely an AD issue. |

I think this movement has a hack. It is a device to stop the seconds bit so you can set it precisely to the correct time. You might try unscrewing the crown and adjusting the hands a few times along with moving the stem through all the different date setting postions. You don't need to change the date, just move the stem in and out. If the hack is not releasing when you push in the crown, the watch will not run. You have nothing to lose at this point. Roff is correct about mainsprings in automatics. They do not break. The bridle slips in the barrel before you can generate enough pressure to break the spring. Good luck! |

Yep, somewhere in the keyless works. The problem is probably in the clutch. As the setting pinion moves on the shaft it controls the movement of the hack. That's why I suggested exercising the stem, clutch and associated parts to see if it would free the hack. All things considered, this watch should go back to the AD even if the hack is no longer engaged. If it happened once it will probably happen again, usually about a week after the warranty expires. |

See I work in an airline warehouse so I used a small buggy to pull carts,dollies etc. Well I was pulling some toward a yard so they can be staged and strangely enough, a couple of times back and forth through the bumpy road shook my watch and it started working again  . Just to be sure I took the watch to the ad (I was going to get the bracelet repolished cause of some minor scuffs) and he told me something like this - that sometimes after the watch is wound up it needs a good shake or whack on your palm - dont quote me since I don't remember exactly what he said. I'm just happy that my bentley is beating again

When you pull the stem to set the watch, the hack moves to contact the balance wheel and stop it. This function is not synchronized with the position of the balance. So, the balance could stop in any position, i.e., fully displaced to one side, perfectly aligned with the pallet fork, or any position between. For the sake of argument, let's say it stopped with the roller jewel aligned with the pallet fork. In this case the hairspring has no tension on it. Now, we release the hack. If the watch is "in beat", there is nothing to start the balance except the pressure from the escape wheel on the receiving pallet jewel, which should set the balance in motion. After a couple of swings of the balance wheel it picks up full motion, and everything is well. If the watch is not in beat, the balance might not start without a nudge. A quick rotation back and forth should do it. Under no circumstance would I "give it a whack" which is certainly not good for the movement. If this situation occurs on a regular basis, I would get it serviced, especially if it is still in warranty. |
