Post subject:  Breitling Chrono Ocean Colt--Operating question

Just bought a used Breitling ChronoOcean Colt, vintage 1999-2001. No manual comes with it. Cannot fully figure out the chronograph. The face of the watch has three sundials (2, 6, 10 positions), two buttons at 2pm and 4pm to operate the chronograph and two large sweep hands--a red tipped sweep hand that measures chronograph seconds and a plain silver sweep hand that measures chronograph minutes. (the 2pm sundial is 1/10 seconds for the chrono, the 6pm the seconds on the watch itself and the 10pm is probably the hours for the chrono). What I cannot figure out is how one resets the chrono minutes sweep hand. It is, for example, now at the 46 min position and if I start the chrono (with the 2pm button), it will move to the 47 min position after one minute. But when I reset the chrono (with the 4pm button) the chrono minute sweep hand does not reset. It stays at the 47 min position.

Don't think that is how it is supposed to operate. Not a big stopwatch user so it doesn't really matter that much to me but if someone knows, could you help me out?

You're right, it sounds like something's a bit off. I'm far from a watchmaker, but my guess is that the mechanism that should release chrono minute marker either needs to be lubricated or replaced. If I were you I'd take the watch to an AD and get a quote for a service, then decide if I believe it's worth the money or not. Good luck!

I have a Chrono Shark which uses the same Calibre 53 movement.

I don't have a manual either but a similar thing happened to me when the chrono hands would not reset to 12. I fixed it easy enough so try this...

Unscrew the crown and pull it out (can't remember to which position)
Press the pusher at 2 o'clock (or maybe 4 o'clock) and one of the hands will move around one tick. Push until it gets back to 12.
You will have to use trial and error to discover which buttons/positions do what but the principle is right.

When everything is set at 12, screw back the crown and let the chrono run for a couple of minutes and all should be back to normal.

Otherwise, it's going to be back to Switzerland and a hefty bill!

Good luck!

Unbelievable. Son-Of-A-Gun.

It's the second position, 4PM button. Click, click, click to 12. Let it run. Comes right back.

You rock.

Glad it worked!

Enjoy the watch.
