If I choose to wind and set my watches when I wish to wear them rather than have them on a winder what are the chances of cross threading the crown. Has this happened to anyone? If so what was the outcome? |

It certainly can happen resulting in a potentially expensive repair as the sleeve will need to be replaced in the case. That said, I have manually wound watches with screw in crowns on literally thousands of occasions and never come close to having a problem - just be careful and you shouldn't have a problem - after all the crown stem is still pretty well seated in the tube when it's unscrewed. |

Thankyou for the reply. I keep the Cockpit and Chronomat on winders because I find I often want to put one or the other on on very short notice. But it occurs to me that as I continue to add to my collection, keeping every watch on a winder is going to be difficult as well as very costly. Many people on this forum have signatures which show a very large collection of expensive automatics. How do they manage these collections in a way that looks after the watches as well as giving the benefit of having and wearing them? |

I use winders for most of the automatics, but I also have a number of manual winds and it really isn't too much hassle to wind them each day - about 30 seconds per watch. |
