Post subject:  Advice on Straps please
i am looking to put a blue leather strap on my Colt. any advice on where best to but a genuine strap online and how difficult to fit? or am i just better going to my AD and getting them to fit. UK based.

I had a blue leather strap for my Colt GMT that I got, tried on once and then never tried it again. I would suggest if you do get the leather strap, to also buy the deployment buckle since that's easier to break in and from what I hear, more comfortable.

Why did you skip it? (...if you don't mind me asking).

I thought genuine Breitling straps were supposed to be some of the best out there? (..i haven't tried one myself, as they are too long for my small wrists).

It was too stiff for me and I didn't have the patience to try and break it in. I posted it for sale on here and it sold in about 10 minutes along with the blue diver pro that I had.

Have you tried to get a short one? I just bought a new short leather strap from my AD. Breitling has a standard length plus a long and a short. For an additional US $50.00, I got the short one. It fits perfectly. :D I do keep the watch on a winder which helps to break in the strap. They are really stiff when you get them, but do get more comfortable after time. The winder now serves two purposes! :)

Would still like some help with regard to my original question, where best to get one and how difficult to fit :(

Straps are easy to change with the right tool - Bergeon 6767F and springbars (not the same ones as for a bracelet). Prices online are not generally great unless you stumble across one on the Bay or here. Fakes are out there so be sure before you buy. If using an online store then you are usually better off with an AD.

No problem at all.

The usual recommendation is for www.watchtool.co.uk, but good to hear that there are other good ones.

As Roff said very easy to fit with the correct tool. Worth buying that one or similar so you can swap and change at your leisure. I'm always swapping my straps, bracelets around.

One tip I have is to put some cellotape to the back on the lugs to prevent scratching the case with the spring bars as you put them in :wink:

Huh... I hadn't heard that there are different springbars for straps and bracelets. I just changed my Chronomat from the original bracelet to a Ling strap and re-used the bracelet springbars. Should I have not done that? (and if not, what should I buy instead?) My AD did throw in a couple springbars with the strap, but after much frustration trying to use them, I discovered that they had accidentally given me 24mm bars, not 22mm, so I don't have anything other than the original bracelet bars.

Strap springbars are thicker diameter. You can use bracelet on strap, but not usually vice versa (they don't fit). I usually just ask my AD and they throw me a bunch of each.

Thanks. Since My AD is your AD, I'll just ask her to throw some more springbars in when she ships me my next watch. :D (which I certainly hope comes in any day now!!!)
