I inherited a Breitling. Not sure of the model or how it works. It has a silver body with a blue face. It has three gold dials. The top one has the numbers 10 , 20, 30. The bottom one looks like a clock and the left one has the numbers 20, 40 60. On the side of the bezal are gold "dots" every 5 minutes and gold markers at o, 15, 30, 45. It has a brown leather band. On the back is: B13047, the Breitling logo, the word breitling, and then the number 97061 A few questions: 1. What is the model of watch 2. The top buttom appears to start and stop the second hand, is that correct. 3. The bottom button resets the second hand correct? 4. I have figured out the middle buttom sets the time, and winds the watch?? 5. How do you set the date. 6. I love the watch, want to keep it, but an interested in the value. 7. What is the purpose of the dials and how do they work? Thanks! [/img] |

Hello TD7040, 1. The discription sounds like a Chronomat, probably before 1990. But beware, there are quite a lot of fakes out there. 2. Correct. 3. Correct. 4. Partly correct. You have 4 postitions for the crown: Pushed in and screwed (normal for wearing), Pushed in and unscrewed (winding the watch) First position out (Seting time) Second position out (Setting the date). Please do never change the date during 10pm and 2am, as it can damage the date mechanism. 5. explained in 4. 6. It is very difficult to determine a value. It depends on Condition of Case, Bracelet/Strap, Movement and on the wants and wishes of potential buyers. I am not sure of the US pricing, but around 1990 a new watch like that with a leatherstrap sold for app. 2000-3000 US$. 7. The subdial on the left side is the acutal second, the upper dial is the chronograph counter for minutes (going up to 30, hand jumping every minute) and the lower dial is the chronograph counter for hours (jumping every 30 minutes) BG Thomas |

don't the top and button pushers control the chronograph not the seconds hand? the second hand should be running in the 9 o'clock subdial. if you turn on the chronograph the hands, on at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock subdials you mentioned should move accordingly. if i misinterpreted what you wrote thomas, my apologies. jason |

First, since you inherited the watch, I want to offer my condolences for your loss. I know the people I have listed in my will to inherit my watches are very close and special people to me. I will keep you in my prayers. Second, welcome to the Breitling club. I would suggest taking it a local Breiltling Authorized Dealer and having it appraised, and you may want to see if it needs to be serviced. That is always a good start whe acquiring a used fine watch. My pops has a Rolex datejust that he said he's leaving me (hopefully not for many many years) and I always ask him when he had it serviced. Kind of a joke mostly. Good Luck! |
