Post subject:  Re-Sale of a Navi World w/SS

I have a Navi World with SS bracelet. I took it to a one of two shops in my area which are certified dealers, and it was confirmed real. It is sort of roughed up though. It needs new bracelet pins and definitely a polish. Since I am not interested in keeping this watch, as it's way too big for me I am looking to sell it. The jeweler actually called me and asked to purchase it. They haven't given me an offer, but I wanted to know ahead of time what sort of price should I be sticking to? Is there a good enough market in the public to sell it? They are selling this exact watch for between "5 and $6000." In the words of the salesman. I really appreciate any feedback and direction. :|

There's always a market, it's just a question of price.

This watch is most certainly not a $5K+ watch on the secondary market, especially not if it is in the condition you describe.

There is a dales forum on here which is worth searching, and there are also the guidelines for sale ads if you wish to try and sell it here. Of course eBay will also allow you to get some idea of value.

Well if it's any help, I was offered $2,600 by two dealers for a 6 month old mint Breitling that cost just over $7,000.

Their offers didn't even warrant a reply!

A good condition Breitling should be pitched at about 40% off retail for a private sale.

The Jeweler offered me $1500 for the watch does this seem like a decent deal? I was also curious if I were to get it all shined up would it benefit the resale value greatly? Thank you for the feedback so far.

Dealers will never offer you much because they want to sell on for profit. You generally do better on eBay.

Of course you will get more if the watch is cleaned, polished, etc, but whether you will get the cost of the work back will depend on how much you have to spend on it.

i think a forum member sold a mint silver faced s/s complete with papers/warranty left for about $3500-$3600 a couple months back.

you should definitely get it polished...if it's a complete set i think you can get alot more than what the dealer is offering on that auction site.

I'm going to look into polishing it today. The watch is far from mint, but still not super bad. A polish would make it look pretty mint. The problem is now it stopped ticking, and since I have no idea about the mechanics of these watches, I don't know how to get it to start ticking again. This could be a major problem. I have tried winding the crown 40-50 times, and I was also under the impression I have to unscrew the crown to get it to the first "notch" to accomplish the manual wind, but I don't seem to have any luck with that. I also don't want to tamper too much with it. In retrospect, if this is an issue, I wish I would have settled with the jeweler. Thanks a lot for the feedback guys. I'll keep you posted on the progress.

You don't have to unscrew the crown to wind it. The World is wound with the crown fully pushed in and by turning it clockwise.

Yeah I figured that out. I took it into the the shop, it's in for repairs and a polish now. Just waiting on the quote.

The problem with the watch was it has a screw that needs to be replaced. The repair and polish will cost me $300. I was told it will be in fully new condition. I have no papers or owners manual, just the watch. Would it be foolish of me to try to sell it for $3000?

since nrmt/mint complete with papers, maybe even warranty are going for mid 3s...i think asking for 3 is too ambitious.
