Post subject:  New Colt Question...Please

I recently bought what I thought was a Colt Automatic as a gift. Upon researching it, I noticed that the automatic is shown with a steel wristband. The one I bought came with the rubber strap which appears on the Quartz model. Does this mean I got a Quartz model?!? I bought from an authorized retailer at an outlet. The receipt does show Colt Automatic as the model as well. Is it possible to buy a Colt Automatic with a different band? Does this happen or did I get duped? I'm freaking out. I already wrapped the box and don't really want to open it (call me lazy).

Please help, I am female naive to watches and am upset that I may have bought a Quartz movement when I was expecting Swiss...

Thanks!

Easiest way to ease your mind - look at the second hand.

If it sweeps (constant movement) then it's automatic

If it ticks (one movement each second) then it's Super Quartz

Any colt can come with rubber or steel or leather.. it doesn't mean that it is quartz or automatic. But what Roffensian said is correct... automatics sweep, quartz ticks.

Thanks guys!

I couldn't resist and gave into my anxiety - I had to open the box. It is in fact the Automatic and does sweep (I was pretty sure of that to begin with). I just let my worries get the better of me and started to get anxious. Whew. Only other question - I looked over the warranty information and it says it only applies of the retailer signed in the back of the warranty booklet - which mine didn't! They have their USA and retailer name stamped on the last page there. Is this a problem? I imagine the warranty is no good if the retailer didn't sign that page. What should I do?

Thanks again for the information, I truly appreciate it.

I wouldn't worry about the warranty card - the stamp only is fairly normal - some may add the name of the sales person, but the kiey is that there is an AD identified.

One other thought - as the watch is going to be sitting still in a gift box the mechanism is going to run down. When the recipient first puts it on they should manually wind the crown around 40 times - just wearing it won't be enough to fully wind the mechanism.

It sounds to me that it's working as intended. The only thing I wonder is if you asked for a rubber strap or not?

It seems odd, I get the feeling that you thought you bought a steel bracelet and either it came with the wrong strap or it says somewhere in the fine print that they only sold it with the rubber strap. Since the rubber strap is not as expensive as the steel bracelet, you should check that you got what you paid for.

Apart from that, I think it's a great gift! I wish my girlfriend would do something similar... :) I hope your reciever appreciates it!
