Guys Im slightly confused here.

The OP stated that he wanted a battery change, he didn't say that the the quartz watch was broken, or that the emergency transmitter was no longer working.

My understanding was that unless you request a full service, Breilting would just do the battery change. They are correct in saying that they no longer service the 56 movement.

Sounds to me like they are trying to force an unnecessary movement change in addition to the battery. And since when did Breitling start giving out service requirements based on an email exchange, without seeing the watch?

The emergency transmitter is unconnected to and completely isolated from the movement so its got nothing to do with sending it to Dassault or anywhere else. A regular (Breitling) watchmaker can change the movement battery faster than you can say that will be €2400 please!

And while some of the Breitling purists out there may gasp with shock, have you considered changing the movement battery yourself?

Here are some web instructions, at you down risk of course...

Hi again..

My breitling worked fine, but ran out of battery. I sent it thru a breitling dealer in Drammen / Norway who sent it to a service senter in Sweden. I got an email from them saying the "electric modul" was broken. I then called them and i was told that the emodul for my watch no longer is in production because i have a 01- model and the E came with a new version in -02. I was told that breitling make spare parts 10 years after they stop making a modell?? Therfore i had to change to the new quarts with the new emodul to get it running again.. How the watch suddenly was broken i dont know???

regards
kjetil

Hi Kjetil,

Thanks for the clarification.

It sounds to me like they are trying to get you to agree to a full service, which would include the new module with the later superquartz movement.

For the price they want to charge you (€2400) you could purchase a good used model emergency off any of the auction sites.

I would try making it clear that you only require a battery change on the movement, and if they don't agree ask them to send it back. You could try sending it to another European Breitling centre (UK?) for a second opinion.

Good Luck!

Yep, and they have been upgrading to the SQ movement for years. Are you sure that the problem with yours was caused by a dead battery rather than a dead movement?

I've never known Breitling to recommend unnecessary servicing.

IC = integrated circuit.

They are saying that it's drawing more power than it should - i.e. it's not functioning correctly which is why they want to replace it.
