In reading some of these Forum pages I found that there were people who were having trouble understanding how to use their Navitimer slide rules. That's not a surprise really when you try to read the directions that come with the watch.

I saw a need, so I tried to fill it. I have just launched a new wikispace with step by step directions on how to do multiplication, division, and ground speed calculations. As I have more time, I will update it with other calculation types.

My hope is that it will help everyone be able to really use the Navitimer as the tool it was designed and intended to be.

Here is the URL for the wikispace: http://bretilingnavitimersliderule.wikispaces.com/

I hope you all enjoy it, and please let me know what you think or if you have suggestions for improvement.

Rich

Nice work! It is an easily understood set of instructions.

At the risk of nitpicking, the correct spelling of Navitimer is with one "a" and two "i"'s as in Navigation timer. I say this only because the site is available to any one on the internet and the spelling should be consistent between the text and the watch dial.

Those of us who grew up using the old "slydrool" knew that you could only depend on one or two decimal place accuracy. I still have an old one in a desk drawer somewhere. It is interesting (at least to some, I hope) to note that the US sent men into space during the age of the sliderule. Look at any early video of the control center during the launch and you will see sliderules in abundance. Room size computers were used to crunch the numbers of big algorithms, but the sliderule was the engineering tool of the day.

Thanks,

I'll check the spelling when I get a chance. I'm the world's worst speller, and thought I had it taken care of. No matter, I will soon!

Thanks for your constructive comments.

Rich

OK,

I believe that all the Navatimers are now properly Navitimers...

This is fantastic! You actually taught me how to use my slide rule. I couldn't make heads or tails out of the Breitling instruction manual.

Nice. Thanks for this. I've only glanced at other information about the slide rule and this was very helpful.
