two Questions

1- will it stop running if i do not wear it for a couple of days? I notice my time was stopped and when i moved it around it started up again??

2- How do i set the time? I know that sounds pretty noobish but I unscrew my center dial go into position 2 to set the date no problem but cant pull it out to position 3??I dont want to force it and i dont know if im missing something. This is my first Breitling so bare with me.

Thanks

The power reserve is around 42 hours, so yes it will stop if you don't wear it for two days unless you put it on a winder or manually wind it.

In terms of the crown......

After you have unscrewed it it will be in position 1 which is used for winding it. Pull it out once more for position 2 to do the quick set date. Never use the quick set date between 8pm and 3am. Pull it out again to get to position 3 to change the time. You will know that you are in position 3 because the seconds hand will stop. If it's stiff pulling it out push it back to position 1 turn it clockwise slightly and try again. Do not turn time backwards between 8pm and 3am

Congrats on the first Breitling!

1. Yes, the Chronomat is an automatic winding watch which means if you just leave it lay flat the power reserve will run out and the watch will stop. You have some options to prevent this:
a) Wear the watch more frequently and let your wrist movements wind the watch automatically.
b) Take of the watch but wind it manually 40 turns every now and then. The power reserve, when fully wound, should keep your watch running for at least 42 hours. (And you can't over-wind the watch so you don't have to worry about that.)
c) Take of the watch and let it rest on a watchwinder that will rotate the watch for you.
d) Let the watch run out of power and then re-set the time and wind the watch next time you wear it.

Personally I have some watches on winders, but most of them I just let run out of power and then re-set them later.

2. Sounds strange. When you have unscrewed the crown there shouldn't be any resistance to pull it out. You don't need any major force. When the crown is unscrewed you should be able to wind the watch manually in that position, if you pull the crown out one click you can set the date (but don't set it between 8 and 3 as that may damage the mechanism) and one more click out should make you set the time.

Hope that helps.

(Roff, you beat me.)

Like right when i wind the date and its about to turn to the next number it gets a little harder to turn and it flicks back to 24...any one had an issue like this before?

Juan make absolutely certain that if you are using the quick date set that the time is not set between 8:00pm and 3:00am. If it is, do not set the date with the quick set. Instead roll the time forward until it is outside the above range and then set the date.

I got it. Since i'm on the east coast the time is 9:30pm and the time was set. Thats why it wasnt working....did i mess it up? What are the reprocutions to doing this?

You can strip the gears of the mechanism. You will need to watch it and see if it performs ok but hopefully you haven't done any damage. Always make sure that you never ever set the date between those times.

Good luck!

Man i feel like an idiot!!!! Oh well i guess its one of those things that once you do it you'll never do it again.

Ill keep an eye on it to see if its messed up. I already checked the second dial and the chronomat against a stop watch and its working perfect. Ill check every hour to see if i lose any time.

Any other ideas to check if there is a malfunction?

I don't think the time and chrono function will be hurt. Probably would be the date change function that would be harmed. Just keep an eye on the date.

Well let's have a few facts rather than speculation........

You don't use the quick set date mechanism or wind time backwards between 8pm and 3am because the date change mechanism is partially engaged with the watch's running train - regular hours minutes and seconds. If damage has happened then it's a bent or broken tooth on the date change wheel, which will cause either missed date changes or a date change that causes the date to not sit centrally in the window.

It might not happen every time, and it might not happen immediately, but definitely needs to be monitored and the AD needs to be involved as soon as anything looks suspect.
