I'm pretty new to the world of mechanical watches have just purchased my first Breitling. Its a Superocean, blue dial with professional bracelet. I won't be wearing the watch daily as my work sometimes involves getting my hands dirty working on/around motorbikes. Should I be using a winder to keep the watch wound while its not in use? if so what should I look for in winder, i've seen a few on ebay but not sure what is good/bad!

As most of work is desk based my current daily watch has suffered a lot of wear on the strap, if I use my Breitling at work how can I keep the bracelet looking like new?

Thanks for you help!

Congrats on the acquisition!

There are many, many discussions on here about watchwinders - the search function will show you the pros / cons of the good winders vs. the cheaper, generally Chinese motored ones.

However, there's no reason why you have to buy a winder - you can simply wind the watch once a day when you don't wear it - 30 turns is plenty.

In terms of scratches on the bracelet, they are a fact of life, but an occasional polishing with Sunshine or Cape Cod cloths (both readily available online) will do wonders. Again there are threads here talking about them - take note about what to avoid polishing and about washing off afterwards - especially with Cape Cods.
