Hi - hoping I can get advice. I recently sent my 9 year old Breitling Colt for a total overhaul at an official Breitling store in the UK.

The original strap was dark blue, as was the dial. Now, the watch has been returned, but with a black dial and black straps.

Breitling insist that the original dial was black, but agree that the strap should have been replaced as dark blue.

I checked with the original store I purchased the watch, but their records don't go that far back. However, they said it was very unlikely that an off the shelf purchase (this was not custom) would have a strap and dial colour mis-match.

Breitling aren't budging, but I have a sentimental attachment to the watch, and it looks completely different (to me) now with the black dial. I've not picked it up yet - any suggestions?

Thanks!

Well the AD saying that dial and strap should match has no clue what they are talking about, buyers can have any strap they want and when that watch was new virtually every watch shipped from Switzerland was sent head only and the store put straps / bracelets on.

Breitling also delight in charging an arm and a leg for a dial change - usually more than the service, so I have a very hard time believing they would change the dial and not tell you, that would cost them money. Did they detail a crystal change in the service, that could cause the dial to look different?

Welcome to BreitlingSource.

Good to know! The service was around 450GBP, so assume that the dial wasn't changed. They did replace the glass, so maybe that the cause (optical illusion)?

Roffensian is correct, you would know if they replaced the dial. It would be specified on the original work order/estimate along with a nice price tag. I don't know that the sapphire crystal would make that much of a difference. They replace it because they cannot re coat the anti- glare. It'll probably just look a little more clear.

I would suggest getting that blue band again. You can keep the buckle that you have, to save some money and just have your local AD order the leather on it's own. Just be sure to let them know if they need to order it for a tang or deploy buckle.
