first time poster, found this forum and think its the best place to ask my questions ....

i've had my B1 for 11 years. i've sent it back to Breitling 3-4 times since i got it, for battery/overhaul, each time they get back to me with parts needing replacement (optional). dont care much for that since the items they find with an issue is usually cosmetic and most times not even visible to the eye.

i once had a problem with the movement where the seconds hand was slipping. they couldnt find what was wrong so they replaced the entire movement at no charge.

i sent the watch in 2 months ago and they overhauled it, when i got it back the outer dial sometimes seized and was hard to turn. returned it again to BUSA, they fixed the problem and also replaced the hands at no charge due to the screw up with the repair.

so over the course of the decade i've probably spent about the worth of the watch sending it in to breitling. are their services top knotch and worth it ?

been reading around on doing the battery myself, im an engineer, willing to buy the tools if it doesnt require messing with the movement. what kind of tools should i buy and whats the longest lasting batteries i can get for this watch ? is there a seal replacement kit i can also get ?

also i want to know, if i keep the watch away from water, wearing it every day with minimal lcd use, how many years can i go without an overhaul ?

you may or may not buy this, but the last battery i had in the watch went for 5+ years and i didnt see an EOL or 4 seconds skip before i sent it back in feb. ....

Well we had another new member last week who had a non Breitling approved watchmaker change his battery and he is now facing a $700+ bill because they screwed it up. It's not designed to be a do it yourself project and you can't buy parts so seals would be an issue.

A better option would be to take the watch to an AD with a watchmaker on site and they can do the battery change while you wait.

Welcome to BreitlingSource.

thanks for the advice ... thought i saw a diy on this forum for the B1, the guy made it look really simple, but he was also a watch enthusiast, so there were things i think he did that he didnt cover.

i would be worried about messing with the movement or getting contaminents in the watch casing while performing a battery swap.
