Hi everyone

I've just got a superocean steelfish! My first automatic watch and first Breitling. And my first post on here!

1)I know I should unscrew and pull the crown out and turn it 40 turns. Does "a turn" mean one finger + thumb roll (ie about half a crown turn) or does it actually mean 40 x 360 deg winder rotations and about 80 thumb + finger crown rolls? I hope that makes sense.

2) Can you overwind it? If you turn it 45 turns, or your turns are 'bigger' turns than expected, does it damage it?

3) Does it go 'tight' when it reaches the 40 turns?

4) It's got the B17 movement which I think can be turned in either direction?

5) If I wear the watch 16 hours a day, do I need to manually wind it as well, occasionally, or do the automatics keep it fully wound?

6) Finally, should I avoid changing the date after 9pm at night? I read about the date mechanism being damaged.

Anyway sorry for the questions but it's my first automatic watch ever, and thanks,

Martin

Nice first pick-up Martin.

First of all, Welcome to BS.

Here's to your questions:

1) 40 one finger+thumb rolls
2) No and no
3) It goes a little tighter, you just feel it progressively
4) yes
5) a 16-hour wear should keep your Fishie wound but that also depends on your activity
6) Yes and yes, danger zone is 8 to 3

Ah, and it would be nice if you could post some pics of your Steelfish.

4) rotor inside will wind it no matter in which direction it spins, but winding by the crown goes only clockwise.

I want to clarify #1

If a finger roll for you is only 1/2 a turn then 40 turns may not be a full wind. Most people will have finger rolls that are more then one rotation and we had a member a few months ago for whom 40 crown rotations was not giving a full wind.

That's very true Roff.

That is why I give more than 40 turns if I am to leave the watch in its box and 40 if I'm to wear it.

Having said that, I noticed that my B01 reaches its 70+ hour reserve (71 + 10' to be precise) if left idle after 40 "3/4" turns. Which does not mean of course that's the rule for every watch.
