It's not the typical Breitling watch, (ie. big face, fancy dials, etc.) but it's my first one... just got it back from service... put a new croc band on it... ticks away like it was made yesterday... I just wish I had the funds for a vintage chronomatic... but hopefully coming very soon...

And I would like to take this opportunity to thank Roffensian for his wise advice in helping me purchasing this timepiece...

Glad it worked out so well!

That strap goes well with it too.

Hmm... okay it's been one day since it came back and I'm just kind of wondering...

what's usually the power reserve for these vintage automatic breitlings? I wore it all day yesterday, ticked away like nothing... but when i woke up this morning it stopped on me... so I gave it a few whirls and twists of the wrist, ticked again, but it seems when i don't wear it, it stops... when I give the crown a few winds, it ticks again. Is this usual, or does this need some attention?

Well if it's just been serviced then it should have a new mainspring. It sounds as though the automatic winding is working, but check whether it runs for longer when you wear it from a full wind than if it just sits on the side.

I would then check with whoever did the servicing to ensure that they did replace the mainspring and then you should have a reasonable power reserve - these movements aren't as efficient as modern ones, but you should still get over 24 hours.

So it all comes down to the mainspring :?:

Definitely I can hear the rotor move freely and doing its job... and when I wear it, it ticks away and keeps excellent time...

i'll have to find out about that... now the $60,000 question... (for me anyway)

what does the mainspring do? :? what does this spring look like?

In lamest terms it supplies the power for your watch to wind. The tighter it is coiled up the more power reserve you have and actually sometimes when tightly coiled they say it can make the watch run a tad not very much at all but a tad fast and same as when its almost completely unwound it can slow the watch down a tad just because of the lack of tension.

Here is a link to a good pics its the spring wound up in the middle as you can see this one looks pretty fully wound
