I am assuming from the volume of bidding (18 so far) and the current bidding price that this is considered to be a fairly valuable piece, considering the condition I mean.

Valuable is a relative term. It's an 806 so it's more valuable than most models, but it'snot a great one. It's cheap right now which is why you are seeing the active bidding, but it's not going through the roof - these poor condition pieces seem to test lows regularly in this economy. This one's not bad, it looks pretty original, and it's correct for a 1966 806, which is what the serial suggests. The only obvious problem is the chrono seconds hand, and that's easy to correct. It should make $2k, not sure how much further it will go in this market and this condition. |

Thanks so much Roff. As a newbie in this area I was simply amazed that with the condition this is in, anyone was bidding anything at all. I am guessing then that the restoration costs would not be astronomical? Thank you, |

The crystal is an easy replacement, and while it clearly has got wet at some time the movement looks to be in good condition - as much as you can tell from a picture. A good service, and clean, a restoration of the case and a new crystal will likely be $600 - $800. |
