HI folks - Thanks to you folks, I recently bought a NOS Long Playing, which I love and use daily. Given its age, I suspect that I need to be careful to not overwind as there were probably no "safeties" to prevent overwinding in the 1960s. Am I correct? Anything else to keep in mind-like it's not water resistant, not shock proof etc.? Thanks- js |

Anything else to keep in mind-like it's not water resistant, not shock proof etc.? Thanks- js It will be shock proof - it'll have an incabloc system, but obviously not as rugged as a modern watch. Assume that it's 'splash proof' rather than waterproof and try and avoid submerging it at all. If it's a manual wind (which I assume that it is) then it can absolutely be overwound - you'll feel resistance when the spring is tight and you need to stop winding at that point. Also, if you haven't already done so I would have it serviced - it may be NOS but those oils have been in there for 30+ years and will have broken down a long time ago. |
