Well, I'm afraid that it has problems.

The caseback dates to 1971, and the fact that the serial number is on the outside is correct for that time period. I'm not 100% convinced about the caseback - the Breitling logo looks slightly too low, but that might be simply because I know that this watch has problems so I'm looking for faults.

By 1971 Navitimers had been supplied with silver subdials exclusively for the best part of 10 years, and the black dials never had large subs (which this has). Let me make it simple on the dial - there's no easy way to say this. It's one of the worst replacement dials that I have ever seen. The design is wrong, the slide rule is wrong, the logo is wrong, the markings are wrong - it's horrible.

The large hands are correct for an early 70s Navitimer, I don't think that any of the subdial hands are correct - the 6 o'clock is possibly OK, but I don't think so.

The movement looks OK, as does the case. This could be a frankenwatch, but it could also be a correct watch that needed a new dial and hands and got them on the cheap. Personally, I think that if you find someone who can put an original dial and hands on this you'll have a nice watch in the style of an early 70s Navitimer, although of course it can never be original now.

Sorry it's not better news.

thanks for that... I think!! no really that's great. I have been offered the watch by the 'original owner' but it just didn't feel right.

thanks again, adam.

Happy to save you some money! I hate posts like that after the purchase has been made.
