If you can post some pictures on here then we can help. Dial and caseback at a minimum and ideally the inside of the caseback and the movement as well.

Sorry to sort of hijack Garrett's post but I am also trying to identify a Breitling watch. - The common link is mine also say's antimagnetic on back -- It was bought for me on my 21st birthday in 1965 and has a number on back 1191 -it's Antimagnetic/swiss/shock proof/waterproof - I have been told it is similar to one in Benno Richter's Breitling collector's guide on page 119 but not having the book I can't check for myself -- The reason for this is I wore the watch for years and it's seen better days and I am trying to decide if it's worth spending a few hundred pounds getting it cleaned and serviced as it looses time now - I will put on a picture if I can with my first post but also a link to Picturetrail

Image

on preview it looks like it's worked - the strap isn't the original one but I like it

Thanks Dave

There is indeed an 1191 on page 119 of Richter. It should have a Venus 188 inside it and will be form the late 50s or early 60s in all likelihood.

In terms of value - Richter says $900 - $1,000, I think that's a little low, but it's not a tremendously valuable piece. I still think it's worth working on if you like it, and I would send a PM to Craig (chronodeco) - his rates will make it an affordable prospect.

Not a huge vintage fan but I respect them. However this one I really like!

Gentlemen.

Thank you for the info - I will now spend the money and have it fully serviced -- I will have to get used to winding a watch every day now

thank you again Dave

After giving it due consideration I have now sent my watch to a watchsmith to be cleaned and regulated and hopefully he can clean up the glass and remove the marks on seconds dial -
This watch has more sentimental value that monetry value so if it comes back keeping time and looks cleaner I shall be very happy -if there is a marked impovement I will post a picture -- Thank you all for the kind advise -

Dave

Please let us know what this service will cost. If its over $250.00, you are paying too much! Craig

Craig

My watch came back today - all I had was a service -clean - oil and regulate - so far it's spot on time - there is very little difference in the look of watch compared to picture already posted - I have been considering a new strap - I think I originally had a leather strap but bought a stainless steel one - this was 40 yrs ago - it say's "Foreign" on clasp so it's a cheapy but I am happy now it's working. - Cost including postage was £60

This is just an update to say my watch is running fine - keeps good time and looks good now I have treated myself to a new stainless strap - should have done this years ago - only downside is I have to wind it every day

Thanks for help Dave :D
