Now I've been know to say that the closer an 806 gets to that holy grail year of 1952 the more it's worth. I don't have a 1952, and I don't honestly know how much I would pay to acquire one - more than I would care to admit in all likelihood. They are rare.

Of course after 1952 the prices will drop, but still - when I find a 1954 806 on eBay it's going to get my attention, especially when it looks fairly original. When it's got a Valjoux 72 movement then you really have to pay attention - there is a school of thought that says that these were actually the first Breitlings (some believe that 'earlier' ones are really from around 1960). Breitling has denied this saying that the 72s are from 1954 and 55, but still - it's a rare watch.

So let's see how much you've all learned - I'll admit that the caseback may have had the Breitling added later - it's hard to tell from the photos but the B looks a little suspect, but the rest of the watch looks pretty good.

So..........

Any guesses on how I might describe the price of this one:

Well, I wasn't very good at your last vintage navi riddle,
so this time I'll keep my mouth shut.
Although, 30k for a "regular" vintage piece seems a "bit" high to me.

It is a little 'optimistic' isn't it!

I thought I'd misread it at first and was thinking that $3,000 was a good price. The Valjoux is rare, but not inherently more valuable - the Venus is generally accepted to be a better movement. This listing's a joke - at the very, very top this is a $5,000 watch - and I wouldn't pay that much.

List high, accept a low ball offer in the $4-5k range... it might work

I may not know much about this but I do believe the 'B' looks too crisp based on the other letters on the back.

So was this in alockbox or something? The overall lack of scratches anywhere except the inside of the back is a bit strange to be. But then I wear my watches, except when I'm losing them.

The case has been polished which is why it looks good. The Breitling stamp would correctly be deeper than the rest of the case back markings, that's not what bothers me, the B just doesn't look refined enough from the angle of the picture. It's not unusual for perfectly legitimate case backs to not have Breitling stamped on the back and people engrave it thinking (incorrectly) that it adds value.
