hi there does any one have information on the breitling bullhead watch and why there are two types one with the winder at the bottom and two buttons at the top and another with all at the top and are they rare thanks graham

Google "Breitling Pupitre" for info.

The version with the winder at the bottom uses the Lemania 1873 movement whereas the one with the winder at the top uses the Valjoux 7740.

You can still get Valjoux NOS from Old World Jewellers so I would not call them rare. However, I suspect the Lemania version is more rare.

Yeah the Pupitre is one and the Pult is the other..... although I've seen the names used interchangeably between the models with the crown and push-pieces all at the top, and the ones with the push-pieces at the top and the crown at the bottom.

Pesonally, I like these bull-head models and I was thinking about getting one a few months back. I even got as far as asking advice from Roff, but soon found that my lack of vintage knowledge was a bit of a hinderance to finding a good one! :lol: I gave up on the idea.

Well jeez, I'm becoming redundant here aren't I!!!

Sharky and Driver8 have answered the questions, although there are also automatic versions available with the Breitling 11 series of movements.

They are fairly common pieces, largely becausethey aren't that old as far as vintage Breitlings go, and also because there were quite a few pieces involved in the bankruptcy - which are the ones that Old World eventually picked up. In my opinion these pieces offer some of the best value for money in vintage pieces today. They can be a love it or hate it design because that was the era, but they haven't seen the same run up that Navis and Chronomats have gone through in recent years.

The 7740s in particular offer great value, although I would personally prefer the Lemania. Of course the autos are a little more expensive, but they aren't unreasonable.

Yeah I'm sure we could replace you on the vintage knowledge Roff........................ in about 20 years time, assuming we spend all that time learning about vintage pieces and you give up and become a monk or something in the meantime! :lol:
