Post subject:  1961 806 AOPA Real or not
Good Morning all.
For many years now I have been waiting for the right all black face 806 to come up at the right price.
This one has appeared on Ebay, and I am anxious to get some re assurance that it is the real thing, and reasonably priced.
To my untrained eye it looks a really nice genuine article.
I would be very grateful for any input you might have.
has it been re-lumed

I think the eBay number was a UK listing so might not come up in that form across the pond.

It looks to have a replaced / non original dial. Probably done in a service overhaul. The rest of it looks correct. It was listed on eBay 6 weeks ago but didn’t sell.

Is it just me, or do the wings appear off center? I don't know much about this reference, so maybe that's how it's supposed to be, but it seems off to my eye.

As Buddman mentioned, this is a non original dial. It’s a very good one, but not correct. Price may still be reasonable for that watch if anyone has the patience to look for a good dial...

Thank you all for all your help. Having waited for so long for a black face 806 I decided to go ahead with this 806 because it’s only slight downside was that the face was a replacement albeit a good one. I can look for an original face, but not sure that will matter that much to me at the moment. It just looks so good, and I negotiated a price just below £3000.
I will now be looking for someone to service it in the UK (not Breitling I know) and I will post a separate question on the forum.

Hi DOW. Purely for my learning, would you mind posting the photo of the all black dial that you bought so that I can learn why it wasn’t the original dial? What were the differences that show it wasn’t the original? Thanks very much.
