Post subject:  What Does 81600 Mean? It This A Real Cosmonaute Reference #?

I've gotten the Cosmonaute bug. Yes, know it's a 24 hour movement and no, don't mind the difficulty reading one.

On C24 there are 30+ Breitling Navitimers with the reference 81600. Sellers quote this for both 12 and 24 hour models. These all have flat case backs with the number 81600 stamped on them.

What's going on? Did Breitling change their reference number system and 81600 is in the old system? Many Cosmonaute reference numbers start with a letter, like D13022.

Or are there 30+ watches on C24 where someone along the way put an 81600 back during a service to save a few bucks? Much appreciate the help. Cheers.

That's exactly what happened from about 1990. 81600 is the old reference number, and yes unfortunately the reference was shared between the Navitimer and Cosmonaute at that time, which causes some confusion. You can read about the newer reference number system here:
