Post subject:  Newbie with Breitling ID question

Hello, I just joined as I decided to solve the mystery of my father's old watch, with a stopwatch feature. I believe it is from the 1940s, and based on the number on the back of the watch, it appears to be from 1944. Any pointers would be much appreciated. I've not been able to find any images that match what I have.

Thanks.

Thank you for getting back to me. The numbers on the back are: 565120, and under that is 178.

It’s an authentic and correct Reference 178. Has a Venus 170 movement. Not an uncommon or rare watch but in lovely condition.

Thank you very much. Does this watch have a name? I know next to nothing about these references. Where can I learn? Can you point me to some good resources and/or fill in some blanks?

Hello, All. Revisiting this post, and realized I dropped the ball on following up on my question.

Can someone please help me identify my watch by an exact and specific name and any other details of its history and design? The Art Deco styling makes me think it is from the 30s.

Thank you.

It doesn’t have a name per se. it’s a reference 178 with a Venus 179 movement which was part of the less expensive line of chronos. The watch is from the 1940s as mentioned above. Hope helpful!
