Hi everyone, I have never done a dial swap before. I’ve seen a few top time dials online and was curious to know how difficult it is to do a swap. Also several of the dials have a black ring around the outside like the one shown below. Will this be visible after the dial is put into another watch? Any idea what the mark or damage is below the 6 oclock subdial? Thank you for all your help |

Hi - a dial swap is quite straight forward if you have the correct tools and know what you are doing. There are a number of points at which you can cause a problem if you are not careful. And by cause a problem I mean ruin the watch. The movement needs to come out of the case, the dial feet are held in by screws either in the side of the base plate or in the back of the movement (both variations occur in the V178, you need to know which are the dial screws, undoing the wrong ones would be bad). The hands need to come off (you'll need hand removing tools, be sure to protect the dial face as it's very easy to mark the dial) pray the mounting tubes stay attached to the hands. The dial can then be removed and swapped. Fitting is the reverse. Mounting the hands is the trickiest bit (watch hand press required) as the centre second hand, hour and minute counter subdials hands need to be zero'd accurately. If you have never changed a dial or hands it would be advisable to get a watch repairer to do it. |
