Post subject:  Breitling Navitimer AOPA or no AOPA advise .

Hello ,
My name is Bruno and I’m new here ...
I found an old watch from my dad and would like to have some advise on it ...
What should I do with it ? It is too nice to let it sit in a closet .
Should I Refurb or restore it ...what and where ... I live in Europe .
The idea is to refurb or restore it and give it in working condition for his birthday ...
It is in pretty bad shape though , hands fell of , badly scratched ...
Thanks all for your advise and help ,
Bruno .

Looks to be very nice! Get it fixed up (service and missing subdial hands) but not “restored”! Congratulations.

Lovely and worth getting it back in order!! I’ll let the EU guys recommend a good watchmaker but very much worth restoring and fulfilling your plans! Just don’t sell, I’d pass it on as you said!

Hi ,
Thank you for your reply .
Well the watch belongs to my dad . I guess he bought it in the years ‘60 when he visited the U.S. He was on an exchange program related to military aviation . I remember pictures of my father having dinner with president Kennedy .
Anyway , I think it would be great to give it to him in working condition . Really I know nothing about watches but I think indeed it would be better serviced and not restored .
Any idea where ?
Greetings,
Bruno .

Thanks !
If needed I can have it serviced in the U.S.
I will never sell ;-)

welcome, Bruno!
if you tell us which county you live in, we could better advise you regarding service and (small) repair work; of course agree there should be no "restoration" attempt, the watch needs to remain original.

Hello Sir ,
I live in Belgium .
Like I said before , I really have no idea about the watch , model , year etc , forgot totally about it until recently . I will post better focused pictures .
Hasn’t moved for 30 years :?
I agree the “ patina “ should be kept and minimum new parts being used . If necessary I can have it repaired anywhere , being it be Belgium , Germany , Switzerland , .... or even the States . Just want to do it the right way .
Thanks ,
Bruno .

Hi Bruno,
Nice watch and indeed as all others said, should be kept in original condition.
I live in the Netherlands and i know of a watchmaker who does all my breitling repairs.
If interesting for you, let me know then i will bring you in touch with him.
He’s an absolutely ‘know-how’ watch maker and has done tons of repairs etc
In some cases, he has NOS parts that he’s collected for many years incase needed.
Cheers
Morty
