The time has come to update my homeowners insurance and include these watches that I have acquired. I keep all of my pieces in a large safe but I want the extra protection of insurance. Since Vintage watches are not the forte of many appraisers, (the Lamar guy was less than stellar saying to keep an additional 10,000 for the Deep Sea, GMT and Presidential) who do you all trust? Modern watches are easy but how about on a 1950’s Breitling Navitimer 806. Thanks in advance. This forum has been a wealth of knowledge. I am still a little confused on what I have but I am learning everyday.

I've been appraising antiques and jewelry for years - including watches.

Here is my 2¢ worth:

Tell your insurance agent you want ALL RISK replacement value coverage.

Ask your insurance agent what documentation the insurance company will require if you have a claim.

Most Important: Ask them to list ALL exclusions.

Get all this in writing.

At a minimum, I would:

Obtain a condition report from a recognized watchmaker or qualified jeweler including photos of all sides and inside of case and movement.

Document what your exact watch has sold for in the past several years (include photos of actual watches). Includes sales of watches in all conditions.

A qualified appraisal should include these items, otherwise it is just an opinion which can be challenged.
