Post subject:  Need help identifying a ref 178 (fake or not)?

Hello there,

I'm a fairly new watch enthusiast, and I try to do as much research as I can, but then there are the experts that I can hopefully rely on, either to give me some advice or point me in the right direction.
I don't really know a lot about vintage Breitling, but I saw this one for sale, but could not find anything with the case style and the lugs, nor could I find a dial like the one in the pictures.
The only thing that looked possibly correct to me is the movement which I believe to be a venus 170. There is no serial number on the case back which makes me suspect.
My guess is this is a so called " Franken Watch" or just a complete fake.
Was hoping someone could possibly tell me what I'm looking at here.

Thanks,

Al-

Watch is completely fake.

The Case is wrong. Breitling used only flat pushers for Ref 178.

The chrono bridge is engraved by hand. As far as know, on many Breitling Reference 178 from the 40's with Venus 170 movement inside, Breitling didn't even sign the chrono bridge nor the crown.

The case back of a REAL Ref 178 shows the serial number along with 178 with a different font. See the attached photo from photobucket. Any other case back is FAKE!

The boys in Argentina are faking Breitling watches. Luckily, the idiots faking $70 notes, which is easy to spot.

Thank you all for your replies.

It looks like someone bought that thing and I feel for them.
The missing serial number was the first thing that got me unless I thought, they might put the serial on the inside of the case.
The dial looked unlike any other I have seen. But one never knows right?
The case was also quite unusual with the way the lugs were designed.
And the pushers didn't look right at all from the ref 178's I saw.
The movement on the other hand, looked pretty good, but I guess those are already being cloned.

It makes me crazy to think that these people are now even trying to fake vintage!

Thanks again,

Al-

Happy Voting! :-)

The movement is Venus 170. It was made by Venus and was used by 50 other brands than Breitling. The movement was not cloned, only the chrono bridge was engraved "Breitling" on it.
