Post subject: | Top Time - Opinions on authenticity & value |
I've recently discovered the pillow case Top Time models and have become hopelessly smitten. Now I'm on the hunt for the right one. My preference is for a chrome case, though I might consider a nice gold one. Can someone comment on the authenticity and fair market value of the following: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Breitling-Top-T ... SwuspY~2Ab I like the unusual blue dial. What would service cost assuming no issues? I'm not far from Horological Services in Pennsylvania. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Breitling-Top-T ... SwZKBZHv2Q Seller says he serviced the movement himself. No indication of his qualifications. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Breitling-Top-T ... SwlMFZJpCb Dial & case look nice. Movement needs service. Listed a few times, price is dropping. What is the worst case scenario for service cost? Thanks for your assistance. |

1st is fake - a non-Breitling case 2nd is basically authentic, but the pusher at 2 is a replacement, price a bit high. 3rd by far the best, all correct and these cases are nice in the metal. now to servicing - the Heists do excellent work, but their prices for servicing such a watch are at or above optimistic current market for the 2006/7/8/9. |

Thanks very much for your insight, particularly on the 1st one. On the 2nd one the seller is somewhat flexible on price (I made a low starting offer and he came down a lot). Has the pusher lost its finish or it is the wrong type? I noticed the case has a lot of defects in the finish. Replating the case and pushers isn't that expensive, maybe $100-$125. Would that damage the value? There seem to be a lot of ones with nearly perfect gold plated cases (and high asking prices) that couldn't possibly be original. Also, what is your opinion on the price & authenticity of this one? http://www.ebay.com/itm/BREITLING-Sprin ... 1438.l2649 Is the crown correct? |

The Sprint is mine so I will try to remain in advisory mode as I know this isn't the specific Sales forum... The crown should have the B logo which we never got around to fitting as we felt the period crown that was on when we bought it still looked ok. You can find signed crowns for £20-£50 on eBay or we could source one and fit it for you. PS - The Sprint with 'Bow Tie' 'Butterfly' 'Papillon' dial is quite sort after and I would say more desirable than the Top Times you are looking at (my opinion, not trying to sell) though I'm sure others will agree... |
