| Post subject: | Early Breitling Monopusher? |
I saw this a few minutes before the auction ended today. I suspect its an early, unsigned Breilting with a Landeron 13 monopusher movement. It needs more work than I could give it, so I didn't take a chance on it. what makes this a Breitling / Montbrillant ? as you say its completely unsigned |

That's the problem with very early pieces, hard to verify their originality. Certainly many early Breitling chrono's were unsigned and the case style and serial number would be about right but there would always be an element of doubt. That's a pretty rough example and if the wrong person ends up with it we could see it again with 'Breitling' on the dial.

I think the subject watch is Breitling/Montbrillant... unless another manufacturer was using the same case, dial, hands, and movement (which seems possible, at least). Here is a collage of photos that I think helps. The upper left photo is my chrono. I believe it is a genuine and all original early Breitling with serial number 327xxx. It has an unsigned Landeron 13 movement. It is very similar to the photo from Richter at the bottom (unclear which catalog Richter pulled it from). The upper right photo is the subject ebay listing. It is the exact same dial as mine. And they are both unmarked Landeron 13 movements. The only obvious difference to me between mine and the subject watch is that mine has two pushers, the subject watch has one. However, given the subject watch has a 310xxx serial number, its probably older - when monopushers were more popular. While this is far from conclusive, I tend to agree there is a good chance its Breitling.

Any thoughts now? The Landeron still makes it somewhat questionable. |
