Are all 2002s front loaders? Also - I note some have a serial number below the 2002 in the reverse but some don't; is the serial number elsewhere? e.g. see this one has the serial number: http://www.vintage-watches-collection.c ... pers-1967/ |

2002s are front loaders. I think you might get the serial number on the caseback for the Valjoux variant, otherwise it's inside the caseback (and hence not visible unless you pop out the mechanism) |

no, I just retrieved my 2002 - same as your photo -and it has the serial numbers on the back. I made the valjoux comment because I was thinking the reverse panda 2002 didn't have the serial number, but thats wrong. So I guess the question is what 2002 doesn't have a serial number. Might just be a year thing - navitimers are like that - perhaps earlier produced pieces had the serial number inside. Need Fred to show up ![]() |

It's not as simple as that, early 2002s were TopLoaders with Venus movements (1964/5) and then moved to Valj around 1966 iirc, when Valj bought Venus out, and so as always there are some Transitional models. Late 2002s had removable casebacks and some were even given the model number -33. There were dial and hand variations too. If you are after a 2002 I know of a lovely 1966 'Thunderball' with tropical dial that I owned briefly that a good friend is now selling Sent from my SM-G901F using Tapatalk |

As ever with these things I guess it is difficult to tell without taking the watch apart. Just wondering what facts could be established from just viewing the watch. |

Mk1 steel cases are monococque toploaders, Mk2 have a similar design to the 2003, i.e. a pressure back, all cases manufactured by EPSA Piquerez btw. Mk2 have the serial numbers outside. haven't yet seen a Mk1 with that, Mk2 appear to be 67 or later. so Mk2 will typically have Valjoux 7730 or 7733 (most of these are marked -33, but have seen examples without that marking). another difference are the dials and hands, most Mk2 have "full dials", i.e. no tachy/pulsations/deci inserts - and wide baton hands, but transitions everywhere ![]() |
