I almost jumped on this one myself thinking it was a rare 806-E which actually came with the Valjoux 7736 in the later seventies when the Venus 178 was no longer available. You'll note where I asked the question at the bottom of the ad. The serial number equates to 1967 and in 1967 they were still using the Venus 178. So, bogus watch and a put together. Maybe someone knew this and just bought for the parts.

Paul, I thought that there were 1960s versions with the 7736, that as the seller described had the -36 suffix to the model number. Not sure about this one as it is stamped as just an 806, but pretty sure I have seen some Valjoux powered 806-36s around.

Am I getting confused?

You're probably correct. I did some more quick research and found this on the Watchuseek forum:

"Some Navitimers were fitted with the Valjoux 7736 movement from about 1967. These watches are usually stamped on the case back with the reference "806-36" but some later examples are stamped "806 E". All 806-36's and 806 E's seen by the author have large silvered subdials."

Since he says 'usually' stamped 806-36 then I guess we can probably assume that some came without it. Still not sure I would risk it unless the history was known. Bit chancy maybe but probably not a bad buy.
