Hello Breitlingers ( :?: ),
I am not an expert on old Breitlings by far.
I saw online at Christie's there is a Duograph for sale at their auction upcoming in June. If anyone here is good with these vintage pieces if you have feedback on its condition. I did read the condition report but I am sometimes afraid of the reputation of auction houses and the ability to see what is original and what is not.

the condition of that one is actually (much) better than described

and it really is 100% all original and untouched (as stated in the auction) and in this case Christies are spot on with their description ;-)

the one thing it doesnt state in the auction is that it is recently serviced

one of the occasions where the description actually fails to do the watch justice.
the first clearly correct Duograph I've seen listed for some time, though the logo on the dial indicates it was assembled in the very late 1940s or earliest 1950s, although the case is a 1945 production; typical for the rarer models of the period.
exceptional; will be interesting to watch where this one goes.

I think most of these split seconds are gold, is that correct? I have tried to find other sales in the past to compare pricing (it seems like their estimate is in the range of most sales I see, the high end is higher than I have found).

The watch looks good, a little wear on dial but looks nice over all.

Since I am learning is there something I should see that makes those questionable pieces?
Is it something with the watches as they look nice to me and the catalog essay says good things.
Or are they just over priced? (other Duographs I found sold a bit over $10K but not toomuch)

- Neither of those Pillips watches have 'Duograph' on the dial , which they should have afaik
- Both have 1960ies cases and dials etc when there is afaik no proof in any of the documentation (that we have) that breitling made Rattrapantes in the 1960ies

so that makes these watches questionable

plus the 791 has main hands never seen on a Breitling.
main hands on the 764 are late 1960s exe2 TopTime, also not really convincing.
on the fence re those two.

re the "a bit over 10k" - good Duograph in steel have been selling north of 20k for some time, so assume either u are referring to older auctions or questionable pieces, may we have link, please ?

Thank you. I have a lot to learn about these.
The prices I saw were from an auction aggregator site from Antiquorum and Christies auctions. I did not research each one of those sales though so maybe those were questionable like you say.

I should ask to learn too - if these pieces in the Philips auction clearly are not original (to people who know these well), do these just slip past the experts there? Or do they just choose not to say the pieces that are not original?
Philips catalogue essays are pretty strong worded:
About the 791:
"It appears that only a handful of the oversized reference 791, have ever been offered at auction, but none have this example’s unparalleled originality, crispness and provenance."

And 764:
"The present lot offered for sale is, without a doubt, one of the finest examples of Breitling’s legendary split-seconds wristwatch model to appear on the market in recent years."
